This piece was born of a fascination for the amazing creatures, preserved as fossils, in the Burgess Shale Formation – located in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia.

The text for this song dates from 11th Century France and is one of the most well known poems by troubadour Guillaum IX D'Aquitane. The title in original Occitane, is Farai Un Vers De Dreyt Nien.
